Little Fruit Cakes

Not just for foodies

You will need

  • a fireplace
  • a baking hood or clay bowl
  • pebbles about 5 cm in diameter

Ingredients

  • wheat flour type 550
  • sour milk
  • berries as desired
  • honey
  • some fat

Preparation

Knead a smooth dough from the flour and sour milk and keep it covered and warm (e.g. in the sun or in a warm room). After kneading it again, leave the dough to rest overnight.

Depending upon the amount of dough you will need 10–20 pebbles, which you wash and grease well. Shape the dough into fist-sized balls, flatten them slightly, and press a greased stone into the centre. With a good heat, the cakes require about 30 minutes. Afterwards, remove the stones and fill the depressions with the berries and pour honey on top.
